All India Youth Federation (AIYF) State joint secretary P. Gavas has condemned the recent killing of four Maoists in the Attapady forest, saying that such an incident should not have happened in a State ruled by a Leftist government.
Opening a meeting of the AIYF district committee here on Friday to protest against the killings, he said the government, instead of killing the four, should have found solutions to the problems they had highlighted.
AIYF district general secretary Sreejith Mudappilayi said the federation did not agree with the Maoist ideology at all, but they were not to be killed. “Maoists have been raising voice for Adivasis and Dalits and against economic and social disparities in society. Those issues need to be addressed,” he said. Mr. Mudappilayi added that the official claim that the deaths were in an encounter was not credible and wondered how no member of the Thunderbolt squad sustained injuries in the crossfire, while most of the dead had bullet holes on their back.
“The Left movement is against capital punishment. Yet, this was a killing executed without any trial. It is beastly,” he observed. A.P. Ahamed of Yuvakala Sahiti delivered the keynote address.
