Two persons were killed in an accident involving an LPG tanker lorry and a truck at Koyilandy in Kozhikode district in the early hours of Thursday. Three persons sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The police identified the victims as Jaffer, 42, of Thirunavaya, and Rajendran Chinnadurai, 48, of Tamil Nadu. Rajendran was the driver of the tanker lorry involved in the head-on collision.
Fire and Rescue squad officials from Koyilandy station said they swung into action within a few minutes of the accident and it helped save the lives of three persons injured in the incident. The injured were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. There was no LPG leakage and the gas bullet was found safe, they said. The police said the incident took place around 2.30 a.m., paralysing traffic on the route. The timely intervention of a group of local youths helped the rescue forces manage the situation, they said.
