Taking a creative twist to highlight the cause of women empowerment, the Women’s Development Cell and the Media Club at Mohammed Abdurahiman Memorial Orphanage College here have come out with a mammoth wall magazine.
The 450-metre-long wall magazine was prepared after a10-day-long continuous work with the creative writings of over 70 students. The organisers said it was first time that such a magazine was prepared by an educational institution in Kerala. They were planning to to approach the Limca Book of Records for getting it confirmed.
The students had spent Rs.35,000 for the project. They had sought the advice of some professional journalists for the project.
M.V. Brajila, one of the coordinators and a lecturer with the Journalism department of the college, said the purpose of the creative project was to highlight various issues of women and suggest possible remedies. “The magazine has several works of students including poems, stories, essay, and paintings with women as the focal theme,” she said.
M.P. Maneesh, one of the student coordinators who contributed the highest number of works to the project, said they would be exhibiting it in various parts of the city for drawing public attention to the issues. It would also be taken to the venue of the forthcoming Kerala State Youth Festival, he said.
