Varsity not to review evaluation system

Answer sheets found abandoned

February 10, 2017 01:31 am | Updated 01:31 am IST - Kozhikode:

Calicut University authorities have made it clear that the existing evaluation pattern of answer sheets of students under various distance education schemes will not be reviewed despite the ongoing inquiry into a recent incident in which the answer sheets of the university’s B.A. second semester exams held in 2013 were found abandoned on the wayside.

V.V. George Kutty, Examination Controller, said, “We don’t see any need to change the present system.” He also said students need not worry about the security of their answer scripts.

The ongoing departmental inquiry into the dumping of answer scripts is expected to be completed by February 13. Mr. George Kutty had directed P. Sreedharan, Joint Controller, Pareeksha Bhavan, Calicut University, to inquire into the incident after visiting the site at Peruvayal where the answer scripts were found. He said he would place the inquiry report before the Syndicate and the Vice Chancellor for initiating action against the guilty.

The answer scripts reportedly belonged to students of the Department of Distance Education and the results were declared in 2014. The answer scripts of distance education students were evaluated at the residences of lecturers and not at evaluation centres.

As per the university guidelines, the answer scripts sent for home evaluation should be returned to colleges from where the university will collect them. They are then brought back to the Pareeksha Bhavan where it will be kept for some time.

It is suspected that the evaluator could have sold off the old sheets to scrap dealers.
