Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee makes an announcement on helpline number in Kolkata on Monday.

Trinamool Congress functionaries will now visit residential areas in the cities and the villages and even spend the night in those areas as a part of enhanced public relations campaign, said party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing a press conference in Kolkata on Monday.

“More than 1000 public representatives will visit more than 10,000 places and listen to people... They will also listen to the important residents of the area as well,” Ms Banerjee said.

This is perhaps for the first time that Ms. Banerjee addressed a press conference when she read nearly each and every word from papers in front of her.

Answering a question on her changed approach to address the press conference, Ms. Banerjee said that a “process of modernisation has started” in TMC.

She, however, did not answer whether poll strategist Prashant Kishor has a role to play in this modernization of TMC.

New campaign unveiled

She also unveiled a campaign– Didike Bolo [Tell Didi]– to reach out to the Chief Minister directly.

“People can call directly and indicate their grievances at 9137091370 number or reach out to us through a website www.didikebolo.com ,” Ms Banerjee said.

She made no bones about the fact that the campaign will be in Bengali.

“The campaign will be in Bangla as it is Bengal and the mother tongue is Bengali. If I campaign in Assam it will be in Assamese, in south India then [in] language of those States or in Punjabi if we plan such a campaign there,” she said.

Earlier Ms Banerjee always planned her campaigns in English, Hindi and Urdu along with Bengali.

She, however, denied having any plan to engage paid full time party workers like her rivals. “That CPI(M) or BJP can do that as they have fixed deposits to maintain whole timers. We do not have fund,” she said.
