If the comment of All India Forward Bloc’s general secretary Debabrata Biswas in a press conference is taken seriously, there is little doubt that the party founded by Subhash Chandra Bose is contemplating of an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Mr. Biswas told reporters at a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday that at the Central Committee meeting of the party it was decided that Forward Bloc would try to reach out to upcoming political forces like the Aam Admi Party.
“It will exchange views with Left parties, outside the Left Front, like the SUCI and the CPI-ML to form a “greater Left unity” besides the AAP,” Mr. Biswas said.
On being asked to elaborate on his comment on the need to reach out to upcoming political forces like the AAP, which does not subscribe to any leftist ideology, he said “the time has come to unite both the ‘party Left’ and the ‘social Left’ like the AAP.”
“It cannot be denied that a large number of people are coming out in support of the AAP. In West Bengal, the fight was between Modi and Mamata, but in Varanasi the fight was between Modi versus Kejriwal. It is through the AAP that the common people are voicing their protest. Hence, reaching out to the AAP is necessary,” Mr Biswas said.
