At least five persons were killed in a bomb blast inside a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in the Ausgram Assembly seat area in Purba (East) Bardhaman district on Sunday. Speaking to The Hindu  locals said the explosion took place in Pichkudijhal village at around 5.30 pm.

“At least five persons have died in the explosion. The roof of the party office has been blown off in the blast,” sources said. As for the reason of the explosion, they said crude bombs were stocked inside the party office and the bombs exploded due to heat.

However, Ausgram TMC MLA Abhedananda Thandar said the local TMC leadership has informed him that two miscreants in motorbikes suddenly arrived and hurled bombs at them. "While one of our workers died on the spot, two others were critically injured," he told The Hindu . Death toll is expected to rise.

District police officials remained tight lipped on the matter. Calls to Superintendent of Police Bardhaman Kunal Agarwal went unanswered.
