The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested three directors of MPS Greenery Developers, a company having registered office in Kolkata, in connection with on-going investigation in the chit fund case.

Those arrested are Santanu Chowdhury, Prabir Kumar Chanda and Madhusudan Adhikari. They will be produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bidhannagar, in State’s North 24 Parganas, district on Wednesday.

The three directors allegedly entered a criminal conspiracy with Pramatha Nath Manna, CMD of the company, and collected huge funds illegally from the public after making false promises and misappropriated the funds, a senior CBI officer told The Hindu .

Manna had earlier been arrested and at present is in judicial custody.

A case against the company has been registered on the basis of a complaint made by UCO Bank as the head consortium of 14 banks on the allegations of “conspiracy, cheating and forgery” by the said company.

“These banks have been allegedly defrauded by the said company to the extent of Rs.3,814.39 crores (approx), 2013 onwards,” the officer said.

The central agency has also conducted searches at various premises of the company in the State, Delhi and Haryana and claimed to have recovered incriminating documents.
