At a time the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre is said to be behind West Bengal Governor M. K. Narayanan’s decision to resign, State president of the saffron party Rahul Sinha lauded him as ‘one of the most praiseworthy Governors’ he has met.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he praised Mr. Narayanan for performing his duties ‘impartially’.
Mr. Sinha, who met the outgoing Governor earlier in the day on a ‘courtesy visit’, said that even though the State government created many ‘obstacles’ for him, Mr. Narayanan performed his duties ‘as much as he could’.
If the State government had not placed ‘hurdles in his path’, said, Mr. Sinha, ‘the people of Bengal would have benefited much more from his service’. When told by reporters that it was the NDA government that prodded him to relinquish his post, Mr. Sinha said, “Nobody asked him to resign.
The Governor thinks since his appointers (Congress) have been defeated, there is no rationale for him to hold the post.” Mr. Narayanan, a former National Security Adviser, resigned on Monday. He was appointed the Governor in January, 2010.
