Coming down heavily on the Trinamool Congress government for not taking measures with regard to the murder of a college student at Bamongachi in North 24 Parganas, State Left Front Committee chairman Biman Basu said if the ruling party in the State did not stop indulging anti-socials, people will take law into their hands and “mobocracy” will prevail here.
Mr. Basu said that it was not proper for political parties to highlight “political allegiance” of the victim while protesting against the murder.
A tussle between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP was going on ever since the murder was reported in the media. Both the parties claimed Sourav Chowdhury as their member.
In a press release issued later in the day, Mr. Basu alleged that the State government had turned a “section of the police into slave of the ruling party” and expressed his apprehension that if this goes on, many murders like that of Sourav Chowdhury’s would take place in the State.
Mr. Basu demanded that the State government immediately “curb the present anarchy and enforce rule of law in Bengal. He also demanded stringent punishment of the prime accused in the case.
Red beaconReferring to Trinamool Congress district president Anubrata Mondal moving around in a car with red beacon, Mr. Basu said the leader was not entitled to the privilege. The CPI(M) leader took a dig at Mr Mondal, who had been accused in several cases, saying that in future “thieves” in Bengal would move around in cars having red beacon.
