February 28, 2016 02:56 am | Updated September 02, 2016 05:56 pm IST - KOLKATA:

The biggest independent tribal organisation of West Bengal, Disham Adivasi Jumit (United) Gaota, has said the outfit will block roads in Birbhum district on Sunday, demanding “unconditional apology” from Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani for “denigrating Mahishasur”, who is considered a ‘hero’ in parts of western Bengal.

Questioning the relevance of Mahishasur Martyrdom Day in Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, the Minister asked if a debate involving Hindu goddess Durga and the tribal hero Mahishasur was possible on “the streets of Kolkata.”
