: Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah’s meeting in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district was a “flop show”, said State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee here on Tuesday.
“The BJP put in a lot of effort to make the meeting a success, but all of it was wasted. Why convene the meeting at Bardhaman at all?” Mr. Chatterjee said.
Alleging that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) exercised political muscle before the meeting, BJP Bardhaman president Debi Prasad Mullick said during the meeting the TMC supporters tore down BJP flags and forbade them to install loudspeakers near the venue of the meeting.
Questioning why Mr. Shah spoke for a short duration, Mr. Chatterjee said the BJP national president was disappointed with the BJP’s performance in the State.
“Mr. Shah must have realised that it is not possible to make lotuses [BJP’s party emblem] bloom in Bengal. Instead of talking about development ushered in by [Prime Minister] Narendra Modi, he should have addressed the issue of the Centre denying financial aid to Bengal,” Mr. Chatterjee said.
