A major fire broke out at a plywood godown in the central Kolkata. Thirty five fire tenders took over two hours to douse the fire.

No casualty was reported in the fire that spread from the godown located on Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani to its neighbouring buildings, city Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, who had visited the spot, said, adding that the residents of the neighbouring buildings were evacuated.

Mr. Chatterjee said the State would make all arrangements for providing food and shelter to the affected people.

Fire Services Minister Javed Khan, who supervised the fire fighting operation, said that a forensic test would be done to find out the cause of the fire.
