As the maximum temperature is likely to be around 40 to 42 degrees Celsius in Vellore during the next 24 hours, the district administration has asked the public to take precautionary measures and avoid going out under the sun, particularly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Collector S. A. Raman said the Regional Meteorological Centre has warned that the maximum temperature for the next 24 hours will be around 40 to 42 degrees Celsius, which was above the normal temperature.
The centre has warned that heatwave conditions could prevail in the district.
Public have been advised to drink fluids such as water, buttermilk and consume fruits that contain high water content. They should use umbrellas and caps, footwear and cotton clothes to beat the heat.
He also advised that domestic animals should be taken care of in a well-shaded area.
