The Ghaziabad police have arrested a woman and her former teacher for the alleged murder of the woman’s mother in March. The victim, Pushpa Devi, used to protest and dislike the relationship between her daughter and the woman teacher who taught her in school, said the police.

A senior police officer said that the accused have been identified as Rashmi Rana, a resident of Mansarovar Park in Sector 23 of Sanjay Nagar, and her schoolteacher Nisha Gautam, a resident of Raghunathpur in Ghaziabad.

Nisha was staying in a rented accommodation in Arthla, near Radha Krishna Temple, and worked as a teacher in a school, the Kavinagar police said.

Rashmi and Nisha were named as accused in an FIR registered in connection with the alleged murder of Pushpa Devi. The FIR was lodged by Sudhir Kumar, Rashmi’s father.

The police said that on March 9, Nisha had come to Rashmi’s house and Puspha Devi took a strong exception to this. In a fit of rage, the duo allegedly attacked the woman with an iron rod and she died on the spot.

The police said the duo fled to Jalandhar, Punjab, with ₹1,500. Later, the teacher started a coaching class to earn money. Nisha asked a friend to help them out, but the person tried to push them into prostitution. They managed to escape and returned to Ghaziabad to collect more money.

The two women were nabbed from the Ghaziabad railway station while trying to board a train to Jalandhar. Rashmi said she developed affection for her teacher two years ago when she was rusticated from school. The duo said they did not intend to kill Pushpa, said the police.

Nisha, who got married in May 2010, got a divorce in 2018. Rashmi’s father alleged that the teacher had destroyed his family.
