Two days after being hit by a car driven by a juvenile in Kasimedu, a 55-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Friday morning. The boy was arrested.
On January 16, Nirmala was walking on the East Kalmandapam Road, when a car took a turn and hit her from the front. She was thrown off in the impact and sustained injuries.
The woman was rushed to the Stanley Government Hospital. An officer from the Kasimedu traffic investigation wing said the car was driven by a 17-year-old school student from Mannady.
During investigation, the police found that the vehicle did not belong to him or his parents. “His friend’s mother had borrowed it from a relative a few days before the accident. Since it was a holiday, the friend wanted to have fun and asked him to drive the car around the locality,” claimed the officer.
The police said they would be taking action against the woman who had borrowed the car. “She should not have allowed the children to take the car. The car owner is in Bengaluru,” added the officer.
A case will be registered under Section 304 (A).
