In a shocking revelation, the chargesheet filed by the Chennai city police against Vaiko and others refers to the statue of former Governor of Madras Sir Thomas Munro as that of American actor Marilyn Monroe.

The fact came to light after Mr. Vaiko obtained a certified copy of the chargesheet from a Metropolitan Magistrate here and produced it before the Madras High Court on Tuesday.

The magnificent equestrian statue of Sir Munro, regarded as one of the most popular British administrators of South India, has been one of the iconic landmarks of the Chennai city.

The bronze statue, weighing six tonnes, was sculpted in England, brought here in three parts and installed on a giant granite pedestal in 1839.
