The recently-concluded Nadigar Sangam elections will be unforgettable for the drama and excitement it evoked. For veteran actor ‘Pakoda’ Khader’s wife Mumtaz, there is an added reason to remember the election for the rest of her lifeOn Monday night, two men rang the bell at their house and claimed to be newly-elected members of the Sangam.

Snatched chain

Entering the house at Ponmana Chemmal Street in MGR Nagar, they snatched Mumtaz’s chain and fled. “They told her that they had come to check how families of veteran actors were living so that they can provide some assistance. After hearing this, Mumtaz opened the door,” said a police officer. According to the police, Ms. Mumtaz first enquired who they were without opening the door. After they entered the house, the duo engaged her in a conversation.

Neighbours released her

“Then, they snatched her five-sovereign chain and locked the house from outside. Some neighbours opened the door and let her free. She lodged a complaint with MGR Nagar police station,” added the officer.
