Bank Fraud Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) have launched a hunt for a Sri Lankan national who deployed two employees of a restaurant in Velachery and copied bankcard data of many customers using a skimmer device. He made duplicate cards using the stolen data and siphoned more than Rs. 5 lakh. Venkatesh (34) of Virugambakkam, the manager of the restaurant and Balaji (21), the cashier, were arrested on Wednesday following investigations into over 15 complaints received last month.

“After finding out that all complainants have visited the restaurant in the month of February, we questioned the staff there. They confessed that their friend, a Sri Lankan, had given them a skimmer device to copy the cards of customers and paid them Rs. 1,000 per card data,” said an investigating officer.

Police seized stolen data pertaining to 15 bankcards from them. .
