After a slew of complaints, toilets at the domestic terminal of the Chennai airport will be renovated in the coming weeks.
Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said about 7-8 toilets, in both the departure and arrival halls of the domestic terminal, would get a facelift.
“We are in talks with the contractor to see what the best way will be to modify these toilets, so that passengers don’t have a problem using them. It will be done in such a way that maintenance too can be done easily,” an official said.
Several passengers have repeatedly raised complaints about the toilets being unclean. However, the toilets in the arrival hall of the old international terminal, that are pretty old and certainly need renovation now, will not be taken up for renovation, as the terminal will soon be demolished for modernisation. “So it doesn’t make sense to repair the toilets now,” the official said.
The airport has been going through phase II modernisation work, and a new integrated terminal is being built. “We will ensure such issues don’t arise at the new terminal, as we are investing a lot of money, and passengers need to have a good experience,” the official said.
