Suspension of internet connection in three districts cited as reason

The last date for registering online for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) through single window counselling for undergraduate courses has been extended to June 2. According to a release from the TNEA secretary V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, the deadline was extended due to non-availability of internet connection in the districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.

Earlier this week, the government suspended internet services in the three districts in the wake of Sterlite protests. Anna University had announced online counselling from this year and had also set up facilitation centres in the districts. The TNEA has four centres in these districts and the link with the facilitation centres could not be established since Thursday morning, its secretary said.

Until 6 p.m. on Friday, a total of 1,16,003 candidates had registered of which 11,348 had registered through the TNEA Facilitation Centres.
