Tangedco staff sentenced to rigorous imprisonment in Tiruvannamalai

He had demanded bribe from a farmer to fix a changeover switch

A Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco) engineer in Tiruvannamalai has been sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of ₹10,000 on Wednesday for demanding and receiving bribe from a farmer, to give permission to fix a changeover switch for deepening an agricultural well.

According to a press release, the Special Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate (Tiruvannamalai), who pronounced the verdict on Wednesday, convicted the accused A. Srinivasan, Junior Engineer (Operation and Maintenance), Tiruvannamalai Rural South (Tangedco), for demanding and receiving ₹2,100 as bribe from the farmer.

The magistrate ordered the convict to undergo one year RI with a fine of ₹5,000 for demanding bribe and one year RI with the same fine for accepting it. However, he was ordered to undergo both these punishments concurrently, the release said.
