Despite authorities dissuading residents from flocking to waterbodies, especially rivers and lakes in spate, the practice continues. On Wednesday, as many waterbodies continued to swell, residents were out in large numbers to take selfies and watch the surging waters.

At Kotturpuram, near the TNHB quarters, where the Adyar flows, a group of youngsters gathered for the same reason. One of them lost his balance and fell into the water, which carried him a considerable distance, even as his shocked friends kept shouting his name in distress. However, to everyone’s relief, the youngster caught hold of a submerged tree close to the river bank, and climbed on to the ground nearby.
