An IndiGo aircraft flying from Kolkata to Kochi made an emergency landing at Chennai airport on Friday, after one of its engines developed a snag, sources said.

Around 11.45 a.m., when the pilot realised that there was a problem with one of the engines, he decided to make an emergency landing and communicated it to the air traffic controllers of the Chennai airport, an official said. After landing, the 177 passengers onboard were shifted to another aircraft to Kochi.

In a statement, the airline said: “IndiGo flight 6E 227 (Non-NEO) operating on Kolkata-Kochi route was diverted to Chennai today due to technical reasons. The aircraft is currently at the Chennai airport, where it is being inspected by our technical teams. We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. They have been accommodated in subsequent flights.”
