Signboards installed for traffic diversions at Kodambakkam flyover

November 27, 2013 09:04 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:54 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The traffic police on Tuesday placed signboards detailing the traffic changes in T. Nagar.

Around 10 boards have been placed and 100 personnel of the traffic police and 30 of the Armed Reserve police have been posted in and around T. Nagar to regulate traffic.

The changes in routes were put in place after Chennai Corporation commenced work to repair the Kodambakkam flyover. Only light vehicles are allowed on the flyover from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Heavy vehicles have to take the Rangarajapuram flyover.

West Mambalam resident R. Govindaraj said with too many diversions, motorists were confused.

“The traffic constables posted near turns do not know the locality and just direct people to go right or left. If we ask them where a road would lead to, they don’t know,” he said.

Residents said they were facing extreme hardship because of the one-ways.

Radhika Anand, a resident of Padmanabha Street near Habibullah Road, said that because of the restrictions, school buses have refused to ply streets in their locality.

“School buses have been dropping our children around two km away from our houses and we have to spend 45 minutes just to pick them up. It would help us if the police can leave open the small lanes connecting Bazullah and Habibullah Roads and allow school buses to reach our streets,” she said.
