Sembakkam residents to go on fast

Residents of suburban Sembakkam will stage a day-long hunger strike on Saturday demanding the scrapping of the 2010 notification by Archaeological Survey of India.

As per the notification under Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act 2010, people who own buildings and houses in the Prohibited Area (100 metres from any monument protected by centre) can undertake repairs and renovation only after obtaining permission from any competent authority on recommendations from National Monuments Authority (NMA).

President of Sembakkam Region Residents Welfare Associations, G. Murugan said people in Sembakkam municipality want the notification cancelled.
