An aircraft of the Scoot airline, that had to fly from Tiruchi to Singapore, made an emergency landing at Chennai airport early on Monday, airport sources said.
Around 3.40 a.m., the pilot suspected of smoke in the aircraft cargo and asked for an emergency landing at Chennai airport, an official said. “But later when they checked, there was no smoke; the aircraft has been grounded and the staff are checking it,” he added.
Nearly 160 passengers were deboarded and have been sent to hotels. They are expected to fly to Singapore later in the evening.
In a statement, Scoot Airline said that the aircraft has been grounded for investigations and preliminary assessment indicates a false warning.
It also said that it will mount a replacement flight to Chennai, subject to regulatory approval, to transport customers back to Singapore.
