Embarking on an awareness campaign on road safety, Sankara Nethralaya has identified 10 filling stations of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. across the city to install special ‘Vision Charts’ where customers can do a self-check of their eyesight. The hospital will present 250 pocket screening cards to employees and customers that can be used to check their distance and near vision, as well as colour vision.
According to a press release, healthy vision was a basic requirement for safety at all places; all the more so when riding or driving. Titled “Eye on road safety”, the campaign was launched at a HP filling station in Egmore on Friday. It would include various activities to create awareness on road safety and would culminate at the neuro-ophthalmology conference — SYNAPSE.
Special ‘Vision Charts’ with numbers developed by the institution were put up at vantage points at the filling stations. Subha Muthuraman, HPCL senior marketing manager, and Akila Ganesan, director (administration), Sankara Nethralaya, were present.
