Safety rules violated at key intersection

Residents seek speed-breakers on this section

In the absence of speed-breakers, pedestrians find it difficult to cross the intersection of 13th Main Road and Second Avenue in Anna Nagar. Though the intersection has a zebra-crossing, most of the motorists do not slow down for pedestrians. It is a busy intersection that witnesses round-the-clock traffic movement. A good number of pedestrians cross the stretch at any given point of time. Residents feel that the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Greater Chennai Traffic Police should lay speed-breakers and deploy a traffic police personnel at the intersection.

K. Velu, a resident of Anna Nagar says, “ Besides driving at a reckless speed, some motorists drive on the wrong side of the road. That is, motorists those coming from Second Avenue are supposed to go up to Thirumangalam to access 13th Main Road and 18th Main Road. To avoid this, motorists tend to drive on the wrong side of the road.”
