Work to construct a 1,025-metre-long flyover at the junction of Inner Ring Road and Perambur Red Hills Road in Retteri is progressing fast.
The work began last October and of the 93 piles, five have already been constructed. “Preliminary work, including the test pile, has been completed. Work to construct the piles will be expedited and is expected to be finished by May. Since the work site is free of encroachments, we hope to finish the work well within the deadline of 24 months,” said an official in the highways department.
Construction of the facility will help ease traffic at the busy junction that provides connectivity to residents of areas including Perambur, Anna Nagar, Red Hills and Madhavaram.
The Rs. 52.72-crore three-lane (11-metre-wide) uni-directional flyover will have 20 spans, and carry traffic proceeding from Padi junction to Madhavaram side.
S. Marimuthu, a resident of Lakshmipuram, said for motorists, especially those on two-wheelers, plying the stretch is hardly comfortable. “Hundreds of container trailers take up a lot of road space. Accidents involving two-wheelers are common on the stretch. If the flyover is completed, it will make driving safe,” he said.
