As summer vacation is under way and residents have started travelling, the need for a reservation counter for long-distance trains at Velachery MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) station is now much-felt among residents of Velachery and its surrounding localities, which include Madipakkam, Medavakkam, Taramani and Pallikaranai.

Now, residents of these neighbourhoods go up to Mylapore MRTS to buy tickets.“Although there is a reservation counter at the Thiruvamiyur MRTS station, many prefer to go to the Mylapore station as it has four counters. The Thiruvamiyur station has only one counter and as a result, witnesses a long queue most of the time. Still, many people, especially senior-citizens, prefer reservation counters to online booking system,” says S. Kumara Raja, a resident.

Over the past many years, the Federation of Velachery Residents’ Welfare Associations has given representations to former elected representatives but the request has been ignored.“There are reservation counters at Mylapore, Tambaram, Thiruvanmiyur. Velachery station is as busy as these stations, and it makes sense to have a reservation counter here as well,” says Kumara Raja.
