Motorists negotiating Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road in Perungalathur have requested the Kancheepuram district Collectorate and the State Highways Department to take steps to replace a slanting lamp post at the eastern side of the road, towards Vandalur Railway Gate.

The lamp post is positioned in such a way that it could fall anytime. Every day, many heavy vehicles pass through the stretch.

Even roads that are maintained by the State Highways Department have to be provided with lighting by the local civic body. R. Krishna, a motorist, says, “The lamp post can fall anytime. In addition, the stretch is plunged in darkness and motorists often rely on headlights to navigate their way. We are forced to switch on the high-beam lights to gain better visibility of the road. There are no commercial establishments on both sides of the road.”
