The title and first look of actor Rajinikanth’s next film was unveiled on Tuesday across social media platforms.

Darbar , produced by Lyca Productions, will see the actor collaborating with director A.R. Murugadoss for the first time and also stars Nayanthara.

This will be the actor’s 167th film and the poster of the film suggested that he will be essaying the role of a police officer. A dog with a collar that says ‘Police’, a police belt, cap and badge, handcuffs and yellow tape found at crime scenes all find a place on the poster in addition to the Gateway of India, suggesting that the film might be set in Mumbai.

The poster additionally also carried the tagline “You decide whether you want me to be good bad or worse.”

Speculation had been rife about the other actors to be associated with the project, as well as the technicians. After a successful collaboration with the ‘Superstar’ for Petta in which the songs went on to become chart busters, Anirudh will score the music for Darbar as well. Santhosh Sivan will handle the cinematography and Sreekar Prasad will be editing the film expected to release in January 2020.

Speaking later during the day to mediapersons outside his residence, the actor said that the first look of the film was appreciated and he thanked his fans.

The actor further maintained his stance about not supporting any party in the upcoming elections, as announced in February. When questioned whether he would be offering support for his colleague and friend Kamal Haasan, whose Makkal Needhi Maiam is contesting the Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Rajinikanth said that he had already made his stance clear in the past. “The BJP has released its manifesto yesterday and has said that it will set up a commission to implement the linking of rivers across the country. If they are voted into power, they should implement this project,” he said.
