Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi leader T. Velmurugan on Tuesday alleged that holding public examinations for class V and class VIII will pave the way for kula kalvi thittam (caste based skill learning) eventually.
“Despite heading a party and opposing PM Narendra Modi, I couldn’t handle the fact that I failed in class X examinations. No matter in which household a child is born, he remains a child until age 16. To test a child five times till he finishes class XII is unfair and uncalled for,” he said, at a protest in Chennai against the Draft National Education Policy.
Mr. Velmurugan said that the existing education system does not see a child as a child. “The Draft NEP is 100 times worse than what we already have. Tamil Nadu government should oppose this new proposal,” he said.
He also added that the new proposal to hold public examinations for Class V and Class VIII will create mental stress for children who do not perform well in these examinations.
“If a child fails in the exams and their friends move on to the next class, it will create mental agony to the kid. The government must consider it,” he said.
