Senior officers placed wreaths in front of the police memorial inside the DGP office and observed the Police Commemoration Day on October 21.

For the first time, families of policemen who died while on duty also took part in the programme and paid their respects. The programme started at 8 a.m. and senior police officers and retired officers participated. Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran said that a total of 414 policemen laid down their lives in the line of duty in the past year. He read out the martyrs’ names who were from all over the country.

A.K. Viswanathan, City Police Commissioner, visited inspector S. Periyapandian’s house, who was killed last year while in Rajasthan to nab a notorious burglar.
