Says 69% quota in State under threat

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday said that the Tamil Nadu government headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was not doing enough to prevent erosion of the 69% reservation in the State.

He demanded that the State government conduct a caste-wise census in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, Dr. Ramadoss said that the case filed by three students against the 69% reservation in Tamil Nadu was up for hearing next week in the Supreme Court.

“We cannot take this case lightly. It is against the principles of social justice. The students who have filed the case have argued that the 69% reservation in Tamil Nadu, which is 19 percent more than in other parts of India, is affecting them,” said Dr. Ramadoss.

He said that the refusal by former Chief Ministers M. Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa to conduct a caste-wise census was the main reason for the threat to the 69% cent reservation.
