People must be prepared to handle disasters, says Revenue and Disaster Management Minister

No lives must be lost due to natural or human-made disasters henceforth, and people in the State must be prepared to handle any situation, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management R. B. Udhayakumar said on Wednesday.

He, along with State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar, inaugurated an awareness programme on the precautionary measures to be taken during disasters in Chennai. “The seven crore people in the state should gear up to protect themselves during disasters,” Mr. Udhayakumar said.

Various government agencies had set up stalls where equipment and machinery used during a disaster were exhibited at the awareness programme, an official release said,

Short films were also screened and pamphlets on the dos and don’ts during heavy rain and thunderstorm situations were also distributed at the event, the release said.
