The movement of sewage lorries and parking of other heavy vehicles on service roads has been posing severe inconvenience to residents of a few localities in Okkiyam Thoraipakkam.

Jyothi Nagar resident R. Sundararaman said parking of sewage and sand lorries on both sides of Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road came in the way of free movement of traffic.

Many other residents too welcomed the decision of State Highways Department for beginning of road widening work some months ago, but due to construction of storm water drains it has slowed down. Drivers use the two incomplete lanes and also the space earmarked for service road to park their lorries.

“The radial road has become a high density traffic corridor and two wheelers and heavy vehicles battle for road space during peak hours. The parking of heavy vehicles has made things worse,” said Nitin Narayanan, an IT professional .

State Highways Department officials said widening was part of the radial road’s improvement works. They said Tangedco has to relocate its pillars and other installations and once it is completed, they can commence black-topping work. After completion of the road-laying work, they will take up the issue of parking with the traffic police, they added.
