Online gambling racket busted, two held

The city police on Thursday claimed to have busted an online gambling racket and arrested two suspects from a private premises in Choolai.

Police said that following a tip off from a person who lost ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh on two occasions, a special team of police personnel led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vepery K. Maheshwari conducted searches at the premises on Hunters Road.

The two suspects were allegedly found accepting betting money online from punters for IPL matches, one-day internationals as well as T20 matches.

The suspects have been identified as Rahul D. Jain, 24, and Dinesh, 29, residents of Sowcarpet. They were also into online betting for gold prices. They were operating from a house in Choolai for the past two weeks and indulged in betting on share trading commodities, police said.

The police recovered ₹53.35 lakh, three laptops, three mobile phones and cash counting machines. The duo were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
