A large number of T. Nagar residents got together to raise a number of civic issues affecting them, including the drinking water shortage that has already surfaced.
The meeting was organised by the T. Nagar Residents Welfare Association on Rangan Street on Sunday, in which residents from Motilal Street, Mahalakshmi Street, Venkatesan Street and Mahalakshmi Street participated.
D. Kannan, secretary of the residents welfare association, said it was decided that the residents would boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha election, with the slogan ‘No water, no vote’.
With the failure of the monsoon, residents in flats that were constructed several years ago have already started facing water shortage and were forced to buy water in tankers, he said.
He also pointed out that the land acquisition proposed for Metro Rail extension would root out residents living for several decades in Kodambakkam, T. Nagar and Nungambakkam and this was also raised by residents at the meeting.
V.S. Jayaraman, a member of the association, said that a number of issues like inadequate water supply, traffic congestion on Usman Road, construction of new commercial complex and complaints regarding unfair revision of property tax were raised at the meeting by the residents.
