A newborn girl was found abandoned in a drainage channel in Korattur on Friday morning. Following a call, Korattur police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem.
The conservancy staff who came to clean the area around 7.30 a.m. found a plastic bag in a channel on Padavettamman Koil Street and opened it only to find the body. Police said the child was born a day ago.
The police are checking footage of the CCTV units in the area to trace the person who dumped the body in the drain.
