New traffic arrangements have been announced by the Traffic Police in association with the Chennai Corporation in view of the opening of the city’s first pedestrian plaza.

Parking arrangements will be revised again after the construction of the multi-level parking lot at Thanikachalam Road-Thyagaraya Road junction in three months. Parking on the streets in the vicinity of Pondy Bazaar will be finalised shortly.

On Wednesday, police diverted traffic in the area, causing congestion in T. Nagar. Chennai Corporation officials have suggested the introduction of one-way traffic with the support of Traffic Police.

According to the announcement made by the traffic wing on Wednesday, the new pattern will be in place in T.Nagar on Thursday. Vehicles proceeding on Thyagaraya Road from Anna Salai will be diverted at the junction of Thanikachalam Road. The vehicles from Anna Salai to Panagal Park will have to take a left at the junction of Thanikachalam Road and reach Panagal Park via Venkatanarayana Road.

The vehicles proceeding from Panagal Park to Anna Salai-Eldams Road junction will have to take Prakasam Salai, G.N.Chetty Road, and turn right at Vani Mahal junction towards Dr. Nair Road and reach Anna Salai via Ma.Po. Sivagnanam Road junction.

The traffic police have requested the commuters to cooperate with police personnel. Traders have requested the Corporation to make changes to the traffic arrangements based on a study to be conducted after the launch.
