India needs to develop an effective small scale entrepreneurial system, said Dr. Amit Basole, faculty member, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, delivering a talk at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai on Friday.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Lokavidya as the route to employment, dignity and regular incomes for all’, Dr. Amit Basole said that lot of development happens in cities and small towns.
“There is a key role to be played by local bodies and cities. There is also a need to understand credit, marketing, information sharing etc.,” he said. Dr. Basole added that there is a need for Government to create ‘green jobs’.
“There is severe ecological distress and pollution in rural as well as in urban areas. Opportunity to create green jobs with aim of making cities and towns liveable is needed. There is potential for job creation,” he said.
He contended that traditionally privileged castes fighting for reservation benefits, points to the unrest owing to dwindling jobs.
