NDA unlikely to contest by-election

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - CHENNAI:

The National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu, which now consists of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam, is unlikely to contest the R.K. Nagar by-election.

Sources in the BJP said the DMDK has expressed its inability to nominate a candidate for the by-poll.

Within the BJP, the dominant view is against contesting the seat as a poor performance would further damage the perception of the party among the public. In the Srirangam by-poll, the party failed to obtain deposit.

Formal announcement soon

“We will announce our decision on R.K. Nagar formally very soon,” a senior leader said.
