A lorry driver had a narrow escape, when the vehicle went out of control and fell into a 60-foot-deep quarry in Tirusulam on Tuesday.

Police sources said Premkumar (27) of Iluppai Street, Tirusulam, was on his way to quarry number one, when the brakes failed and lorry started moving backwards before falling into the deep quarry.

Premkumar jumped out of the vehicle just in time and landed on the grounds and escaped unhurt, moments before the lorry fell below.

Using hydraulic cranes, efforts are being made to retrieve the lorry from the deep quarry.

A 25-year-old cleaner of a tipper lorry, K Kalaivanan was killed when the truck fell from a cliff into a quarry more than 300 meters below in irusulam in February.
