Motorist’s death sparks protest in Otteri

The death of a motorist in a road accident sparked protests in Otteri as residents charged a construction firm with dumping sludge on the road that led to the accident.

According to the police, Amuj Kataria, 27, a resident of Otteri, was killed in a collision with an MTC bus after he lost control of his two-wheeler.

‘Skidded on sludge’

The accident occurred near the junction of Stephenson Road and Dr. Ambedkar College Road in Perambur. The police said Kataria’s vehicle skidded on sludge that was on the road. His death sparked a protest among the area’s residents, who accussed a construction firm of dumping the sludge.

The protesters blocked the road and the police detained 50 people who were released later in the day. Afterwards, the Chennai Corporation employed workers to clean up the road.

The Kilpauk traffic investigation wing police registered a case under Section 304 A (death caused due to negligent driving) of the IPC and arrested the bus driver.
