Man killed in accident

A young manager of a private bank was killed on the spot when the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion was hit by a State government bus past midnight on Friday. He had joined the bank as Assistant Manager less than six months ago and had come to Chennai to receive his degree at the convocation ceremony of his college on Saturday

St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation) said Daniel Sylvester, son of Pushparaj, was a native of Alagapuram, Salem District. He had studied B.E (Information Technology) at DMI College of Engineering in Palanchur Village near Poonamallee. After graduating in 2011, he joined the Karur Vysya Bank as an Assistant Manager in Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram District

His parents were to join him for the convocation, policemen said.

In Chennai, he was staying with a friend P.Prabhu (22), also from Salem. Prabhu, a final-year student of a private engineering college beyond Tambaram, was living in a rented house in Guduvanchery. On Friday evening, they left for Pallavaram on a TVS Apache motorcycle.

While returning home, they had just left a petrol pump when the motorcycle was hit by a State government bus that was on its way to Salem. Daniel came under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot, while Prabhu is receiving treatment for injuries. Traffic police arrested Saravanan (45), the bus driver. The college management has postponed the convocation.
