Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam will inaugurate the 34th edition of India International Leather Fair on January 31 at Chennai Trade Centre.

The three-day event of India Trade Promotion Organisation and Indian Leather Industry is being organised with the support of the Council for Leather Exports, Central Leather Research Institute, Indian Shoe Federation, Indian Finished Leather Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Indian Footwear Component Manufacturers Association, according to a statement.

The fair will feature a wide range of products, machinery and equipment from over 450 companies from India and abroad, while more than 150 exhibitors are taking part from several countries.

P.R. Aqeel Ahmed, chairman, Council for Leather Exports, said that the industry can grow at the rate of 8-10% in exports, as India can take advantage from the imposition of U.S. tariffs on China.

Israr Ahmed, Regional Chairman-South, Council for Leather Exports, said plans are on to build an exclusive MSME leather park in Vellore spread around 100 acres. As part of the IILF, the Leather Fashion Show 2019 would be held to showcase the latest trends, designs and colours. The show will have 36 female and 12 male super models walking the ramp.
