Two is an air of ‘royalty’ about the Arignar Anna Zoological Park now.
On Saturday, two male King Cobras were received from Dr. Shivarama Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula, Karnataka, as part of an animal exchange programme.
In return, the Zoological Park in Vandalur gave two 2-year-old Ostriches to the Biological Park.
These King Cobras have filled a void that was created in 2013 when an 18-year-old king cobra, which had been in the zoo since 2001, died.
“We have created a natural habitat for these rare species of reptiles and measures have been taken to keep the temperature below the normal one. A mountain stream, bushes and rocky surface have been created to keep the reptiles in good health and the separate enclosure has been covered by toughened glasses for the visitors to have a clear view,” said K.S.S.V.P. Reddy, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and zoo director.
Zoo open on Tuesday
Meanwhile, it has been officially announced that zoo and Guindy Children’s Park will remain open on Tuesday October 20 as the day is part of festival holidays, according to the officials.
