May 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - Chennai:

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Monday called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to strive hard for a stable government, which would wipe away all the blots on the State’s name and reputation.

Participating in the 37th musical festival of Muthamizh Peravai, he called for a strategy to defeat money power in the elections so that the Tamil language that had secured the classical language status would be protected.

Mr. Karunanidhi said whether the DMK had the right to rule the State or not, it certainly had the right to rule the Tamil language and culture.

Expressing the hope that he would survive another eight years and would become a centenarian, Mr. Karunanidhi said even if his physical condition remained the same, he would serve the people and Tamil language.

Earlier, he gave away various awards including Iyal Selvam award to writer Manushyaputhiran and the Isai Selvam award to singer Shobana.
